Four years ago, traveling changed my life for the better! I came to Montezuma, Costa Rica with two friends and immediately fell in love with the natural beauty, lush jungle, stunning beaches. I had been working as an inner city high school teacher for years and longed for change. At this time in my life, I was ready to take a leap of faith and try anything new. So, before leaving Costa Rica, I purchased a return ticket, quit my job and got back to Costa Rica as fast as I could. I didn’t want to stay in Montezuma selfishly, so with my formal training and master’s degree of International Training and Education, I started to volunteer at the local elementary school and found myself a new dream in life. Day-by-day, I worked with local children and learned so much about myself. I thought I was the teacher, but really, I quickly learned that I am the student and I have so much more to learn.
Now, I still live in Montezuma and run Proyecto Montezuma. A non-profit education and adventure program offering free English and extra-curricular classes to locals. Eager globetrotters support Proyecto Montezuma’s mission by joining Surf School, taking Spanish language classes, and booking tours and adventures. Our slogan is Travel Like You Care, and for me personally, there is nothing greater in this world than to free yourself from expectations and see the world!
