My Mexico is undergoing tumultuous problems due to street violence, a fact that seemed impossible four years ago. With this uncertain ambience felt with every breath, a moment gave me reasons to believe everything is going to be all right. I volunteered at a kindergarten where I taught 4 year olds about our values and how to be a better citizen. Sometimes it feels as if after everything you do, all is said and done, nothing changes. However the day I talked about generosity and tolerance, character values sometimes forgotten, and I asked Manuel what he thought generosity meant he said, “Generosity is like magic, it brings a smile to someone else’s face.” I think I will never forget the look on his face when he said those words; it gave me hope and a sense of meaning.
